Creatures of Earth and Sky is from The Odyssey series, inspired by mythology and featuring multi block linocuts that are all printed on archival paper. This artwork contains imagery of constellations both printed and embossed, as well as references to scenes from Homer’s epic The Odyssey.

Artist Statement: The Odyssey series stems from the use of stars as navigational tools, and the notion of journey. For many ancient cultures, the stars and the interpretation of their movements represented a tangible way of determining courses of action and gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them. In Ancient Greece it was believed that the earth was surrounded by “celestial spheres”, each containing a celestial body. Across a number of societies, symbols were created to record the constellations and planets discovered, and to help develop theories and make decisions based upon these celestial bodies.

The stars above have been a constant for millennia. Below, lives and journeys unfold, using the stars to navigate.
